8/11/2023 0 Comments Fluke network inspector keyI queried MetaGeek technical trainer Joel Crane to make sure I had my story straight, as MetaCare is one of those things you refresh periodically so it’s easy to lose sight of the value proposition. I decided to write it after my latest renewal of MetaCare to help other MetaGeek customers (and potential customers) understand what MetaCare is all about. So… is this blog a MetaGeek commercial? I guess you could say so to a certain degree. Go to any WLAN conference or watch the typical wireless professional at work, and you’ll see lots of MetaGeek products in play. I still have my original Wi-Spy USB-based Wi-Fi spectrum analyzer dongle that I used a million years ago when 2.4 GHz was the only band in town, but have also added almost every other tool that MetaGeek offers. Among these are the various offerings by MetaGeek. To the WLAN support community, there are just a few tools that are truly revered. Why You Should Care About MetaGeek’s MetaCare This entry was posted in Mobility Field Day, NetAlly, Network Tester, Troubleshooting, Wi-Fi, Wireless Networking, WLAN tools and tagged #MFD4, Wi-Fi tools, WLAN tools on Decemby wirednot. I have no doubt that the enhancements are only just beginning on NetAlly’s flagship tester. Grass has never grown under this family of testers, and now NetAlly brings us a bag o’ new capabilities in 1.1 as detailed here: EtherScope nXG v1.1 Release Notes – Final. Now, NetAlly has announced version 1.1 code for the EtherScope nXG.Īnd so the cycle we got used to with Fluke Networks and then NETSCOUT continues- where good products get better with frequent updates and nice adds/enhancements. It’s still impressive, but no longer feels exotic. NetAlly doesn’t feel so new to the tongue anymore, and the EtherScopenXG has already become a trusted friend… a go-to force multiplier for my initial wired and wireless network issues and questions. Yet that old insidious change effect has already settled in. It’s only been around 100 days or so since NetAlly has been a company, and I’ve barely had the EtherScope nXG in hand for maybe 65 of those days. (I wrote about the new tester here, and my fellow Field Day delegate Haydn Andrews provided some thoughts as well). As I bang this blog out, I’m looking at the AirCheck and Link Runner G2s on my desk, along with the NetAlly flagship EtherScope nXG. I trust you all remember the big news at Mobility Field Day 4… That was in August, and as I write this it’s December of 2019- only a few months into NetAlly’s existence. This time the color survived the corporate metamorphosis, but a new logo would end up on our tools as NetAlly was born as a spin-off from NetScout. Daily use, occasional system updates, lots of problems solved… life simply went on- for a while.īut more change is inevitable, and a few months ago it hit again for these handy hand-helds. The old favorites were superseded by G2 versions of both the LinkRunner and the AirCheck with updated capabilities, and we all also got used to that paradigm. Pair that with the original yellow LinkRunner for wired networks and you were equipped for just about anything you needed to do for daily support of LAN/WLAN environments.īut yellow became green, and that part of Fluke Networks became Netscout. Remember back to the beloved original yellow AirCheck from Fluke Networks? For awhile it was the handheld tester of choice for WLAN professionals, and it built on Fluke Networks’ strength in putting huge amounts of testing and characterization capabilities in palm-friendly devices. It’s curious how we get accustomed to change, and how that which has changed suddenly feels normal.

Nissan let me sample the new Pathfinder with other media members for a day in Metro Detroit. Someone - possibly affiliated with Nissan - even altered the Pathfinder Wikipedia page to reassert its non-crossover status. Nissan describes the Pathfinder as having four-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive. Nissan kept the unibody architecture, but it's framing the Pathfinder as a rugged SUV - perhaps a nod to American Nissan dealers pining for one. But this time, it's more about branding and semantics. Now in the 2020s, we're in for yet another reinvention. In the 2010s, Nissan switched the Pathfinder back to a unibody crossover, this time without the Pathfinder's distinctive C-pillar door handles. In the 2000s, it went back to rugged and body-on-frame. In the 1990s, Nissan converted the Pathfinder to a unibody architecture. The name resonates with buyers: the original Pathfinder body-on-frame off-roader from 1985 rivaled the likes of the Toyota 4Runner, and the make has been a staple of Nissan dealerships ever since.īut Nissan has found it challenging to - excuse the wordplay - find a path for the Pathfinder since the '80s. A panoramic moonroof option is available on high-end trims for added headroom. It may be calendar year 2021, but for carmakers, it's model year 2022 - and for Nissan, that means the Pathfinder is all-new. It allows for individual temperature adjustment in all three rows, and heated or cooled seats for extra comfort. Nissan Pathfinders from 2013 onward have tri-zone climate control as standard, while it’s offered as an add-on in older models. Additionally, the Nissan Pathfinder can handle an impressive towing load of up to 5,000 lbs (6,000 lbs on 2017 models and newer). Folding seats in the back two rows and under-floor storage provide flexibility. While some find the Nissan Pathfinder a little cramped in the third row, it’s generally considered a family favourite for its seven-person capacity and versatile cargo space. It is available on Nissan Pathfinder models from 2018. NissanConnect is an in-built navigation and infotainment system with a touchscreen display, voice recognition and Amazon Alexa integration. At Benfiddich, the bartender Hiroyasu Kayama creates unique and amazingly complex cocktails driven by his obsessions, herbs and absinthe. This exasperating search for my favourite Japanese bar led me to Bar Benfiddich in Shinjuku. Make no mistake it was good, but the execution was so clunky they might as well have given me a menu and asked me to choose a drink from it. After the hassle of asking what base spirit I wanted, if I like it fruity or smoky, long or served up, they finally came up with the Full Bloom, a sakura and whisky cocktail that I was no longer sure I wanted. What dampened my experience was the flowchart the bartenders used to determine what bespoke cocktail to serve. The classic cocktails are obviously delicious I tried a White Lady and a Last Word, both of which were balanced well. As one of the few confident enough to hold a conversation in English, he travels around the world showing off the famous Hard Shake, a cocktail shaking technique that apparently moves ice around the shaker in an oblique motion, creating a thick foam and micro-shards of ice. At Bar High Five, Hidetsugu Ueno takes his role as an ambassador of Japanese bartending very seriously. This is difficult in a foreign country where the language and cultural barriers are simply too high. Perhaps that is just how it is going to be for a foreigner like me in a foreign land?Ī bartender has to be able to understand the needs of their customers, taking nonverbal cues that a machine simply cannot. To paraphrase Ron Swanson, I do not drink alcohol from that part of the colour spectrum! I left Bar Oak happy, but pretty sure it was not going to be my regular haunt. However, the house cocktails like the “Tokyo Station” and “1915”, the latter of which is suspiciously blue, are decent but nothing worth writing home about. Perfectly made Manhattans, Martinis and Gimlets are the name of the game here. Master bartender Hisashi Sugimoto and his team of three mix up delicious classic cocktails without ever needing a jigger or measuring cup. Now that I live here I begin my search for my local bar, a replacement for The Gilbert Scott, amidst the panoply of amazing options.Ī bartender has to be able to understand the needs of their customers, taking nonverbal cues that a machine simply cannotīar Oak at the Tokyo Station Hotel bears the most resemblance to European railway station bars and seemed like a good place to start. Tokyo is the only city where one could visit a bar and immediately feel like they have been transported into a different era. They are most common in the glittering Ginza district, somewhere where men can catch a breather while their wives and girlfriends shop. These bars are spaces carved out from the dense architecture of Tokyo, popping up in minute basements and multi-storey car parks. It is a place where salarymen come after work for their usual drink and a cigarette – smoking indoors somehow still legal. A bar counter made of a single piece of wood, uplighters or flickering candles barely illuminating the room, which is perfectly fine since there is no menu to peruse. The Japanese Bar somehow has a common aesthetic: a simple, quiet space playing 1940s swing jazz on the loudspeakers. This city is of course, Tokyo, where the institution that is the Japanese Bar has stood the test of time, surviving Prohibition, the War and the Lost Decades. In a city halfway across the world, even the World’s Best Bar, the American Bar at The Savoy, would be considered high-volume and crass. These intimate wood-panelled rooms with a handful of seats do not merely sell drinks, but an experience of which the human bartender is integral. Yet I suspect watering holes of such a derivative nature are not the kind of drinking establishments Palate readers frequent, who would probably find The Gilbert Scott, Duke’s and The Library more familiar. As a means of getting alcoholic beverages from a bottle to the customer, machines have a significant advantage over human beings. I saw for the first time, in an airport lounge, a beer robot that pours the perfect pint every time. Imagine how the nightclub or music festival will change when one no longer has to fight one’s way through a horde of thirsty revellers to order an overpriced, watered-down gin and tonic. It is faster than a human, more accurate, stores thousands of recipes, and would not grumble when some mischievous customer orders a Ramos Gin Fizz at closing time. The MakrShakr, a system of robotic bartenders that made its debut on Royal Caribbean cruise ships, has the potential to rid the world of barmen. It seems no one is safe from the impending robot revolution. Give me colored strands of light every time. And by “screen saver,” I of course mean “that pretty Flurry thing.” A slideshow of pictures of important events in my life? Pshaw. Right-click the appropriate keyboard (s) and select Disable device or Uninstall device. In the list of hardware components, click the down arrow next to Keyboards to expand the section. Select Device Manager from the pop-up menu. Press the Windows key and X at the same time. That’s it! As I mentioned, be sure to have your Mac set to ask for a password immediately within System Preferences > Security & Privacy, but then, that swirly blue icon will become your one-stop shop for screen-saver Mac-locking happiness. How to temporarily disable the keyboard in Windows. If you combine this with the aforementioned System Preferences > Security & Privacy immediate password option, you’ll have a fast method for preventing unauthorized access to your Mac by just dragging your mouse into a corner of your screen.Īnother way to do this, though, is to add a funny little screen saver icon to your Dock, which’ll launch whichever one you picked at System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver with just a click.ĭoes anyone ever use any screen saver other than Flurry? I mean, why would you?Īnyhow, the way you do this is pretty easy. Or you could configure what’s called a Hot Corner ( which TMO’s own Sandro Cuccia has written about before) to invoke your screen saver instead. If you’d prefer, you could also use the Apple Menu’s Lock Screen command (or its associated keyboard shortcut, which is Control-Command-Q). …and then just closing the lid will do the trick. If it’s a laptop, for example, you could set it to require the password immediately when sleep or the screen saver begins within System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General… As you may know, there are tons of ways you could lock your computer down when you’re walking away from it. |
